Eclipses and Astrological Importance

Eclipses are major events, especially in Astrology. An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when one object in the sky moves into the shadow of another. The term is most often used to describe either a solar eclipse, i.e. when the Moon’s shadow crosses Earth’s surface, or a lunar eclipse, i.e. when the Moon moves into the shadow of Earth. Every year we witness a number of solar and lunar eclipses that are either partial or total. The visibility of any given eclipse is usually limited to some geographic area on Earth.

Solar Eclipses

During a Solar Eclipse, which can only happen at the New Moon, the Moon moves between Earth and the Sun (known as a conjunction between the Sun and the Moon), either fully or partially blocking the Sun from our view on Earth, for a short time. In Astrology, the darkness associated with a Solar Eclipse also casts a shadow on our lives. Solar Eclipses, because they happen at the New Moon are about taking care of unfinished tasks, considering new options and planting seeds for the future.

Lunar Eclipses

During a Lunar Eclipse, which can only occur at a Full Moon, the Earth is exactly between the Sun and the Moon (known as an opposition between the Sun and the Moon). For a short time the Moon will appear slightly orange or red. A Lunar Eclipse is a bit less intense. It’s about letting go of the past fears, habits, and feelings so one can feel easy to move forward. This gives us the opportunity to embrace ourselves as a whole and see where we have space to grow in new directions.

Both Solar and Lunar Eclipses are potent events that can stimulate major personal growth.
